Internship with Utah Progressive Network, UPNet
Fall/Winter 2003

Position description:
Coordinating UPNet’s legislative work prior to and during the 2004
legislative session. The intern will be expected to work part-time
developing fact sheets on pending legislation, working with member
groups to identify legislative priorities and strategy, developing a
phone tree with members, and working with the Director to prepare for
the session.

Commitment to progressive social justice issues
Car or reliable transportation
Ability to work independently and willingness to take the initiative
Curious about public policy, grassroots organizing, and non-profit
Good writing and communication skills

Opportunities for the intern:
Learn about the legislative process
Learn the legal and ethical limits of political involvement for
non-profit agencies
Develop contacts throughout the progressive and non-profit communities
Gain insight into political strategy
Learn about social justice issues

$9.00 per hour
20 hours per week; hours are flexible
Internship dates are flexible. The legislative session runs from
mid-January through the end of February.
