 Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah - CEO/President

Primary Function

Provide strategic leadership to position BBBSU as the premier one-to-one 
mentoring organization in the community, matching caring adults with 


Build and maintain an organizational culture that is mission-driven:

Ø      Identify strategic opportunities and challenges facing the agency 
and inspire the Board and Staff to address them.

Ø      Work with the Board of Directors to create strategic plans that 
focus on fund development, community partnerships, program growth and 
agency capacity

Ø      Formulate and recommend policies and operating plans to 
accomplish the Board's strategic goals, and ensure regular evaluation of 

 Facilitate the creation of a strong mix of talents, expertise and 
resources on the Board of Directors to meet current and emerging 
organization needs.

Ø      Identify key constituencies and leverage community relationships 
to assist in Board member recruitment.

Ø      Ensure effective orientation and education of Board members to 
build their knowledge, commitment and skills

Ø      Ensure effective processes to keep board members well informed 
and to use their time and talents appropriately.

 Guide the agency Staff in implementing the policies and strategic plans 
of the Board of Directors.

Ø      Manage the day-to-day operations of the agency in keeping with 
the policies of the Board of Directors and the Standards of Big Brothers 
Big Sisters of America.

Ø      Assist the Donation Center to ensure a high contribution rate for 
the agency, as well as a professional and efficient operation on behalf 
of the agency.

Ø      Hire and manage strong, talented and diverse staff.  Establish 
and maintain a performance-driven staffing structure to reach measurable 
goals and objectives.  Ensure regular staff development, evaluation, and 
termination when necessary. Oversee compensation and benefits 

Ø      Promote a positive work environment that elevates morale, 
operates with openness and integrates planning efforts across the 

 Implement effective fundraising plans and sound fiscal management 
procedures to ensure the agency's financial stability and growth.

Ø      Develop annual and multi-year fundraising and financial plans to 
support the Board's strategic goals.

Ø      Build and maintain a fundraising program that relies on 
diversified and cost-effective funding sources.

Ø      Involve the Board and Staff in the development of budgets and 
fundraising plans to insure commitment to expectations and constraints.

Ø      Develop realistic budgets that focus on top priorities and can 
respond to changing circumstances.

 Create community partnerships to enhance services to volunteers and 

Ø      Leverage relationships with foundations, corporations, 
individuals and public funding sources to underwrite program growth.

Ø      Develop partnerships with volunteer rich organizations to promote 
program growth.

Ø      Collaborate with regional BBBS agencies to leverage potential 
resources and marketing opportunities.

 Ensure that the agency's marketing plans support the growth of the program.

Ø      Develop on-going relationships with the media and community 
organizations to promote high-level visibility of BBBSKPC.

Ø      Act as the agency's media spokesperson in partnership with the 
Chair of the Board of Directors.

Annual expectations:

Operating Budget for Board approval and monthly progress reports for 
both agency and DC

Operating Plan and monthly progress reports for both agency and DC

Annual management report, fiscal evaluation and financial audit

Fund development plan

Board recruitment plan

Marketing plan

Risk management plan

Technology/capacity plan

Program and management audit per BBBSA Standards

Performance plans and evaluations for all staff

Board self-evaluation process


Ø      Minimum Bachelors Degree with 5 years experience as the leader of 
an organization with a demonstrated record of accomplishment in creating 
and implementing sustained growth strategies in a non-profit or 
corporate environment. 

Ø      Demonstrated ability to support and guide a Board of Directors.

Ø      Demonstrated ability to develop and lead a diverse staff.

Ø      Demonstrated competencies in the following key areas:

assist with resource development

Senses trends impacting the future; sees the possibilities and positions 
organization to benefit from new opportunities; focuses primarily on 
long-term solutions instead of quick fixes; develops realistic budgets 
that focus on top priorities and can respond to changing circumstances; 
involves board and staff in budget and fundraising planning to ensure 
their understanding of and commitment to expectations

Salary Range: $45,000-$50,000

No relocation allowance

Benefits: 3 weeks vacation
