Job Development Specialist
Summary Promotes and develops employment and on-the-job training
opportunities for people with disabilities by performing the following
Education and/or Experience
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or
technical school; and six months to one year related experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other
duties may be assigned.
Uses a variety of methods contacts, employers for the purpose of
obtaining employment for people with disabilities. The methods must
conclude in jobs for people with disabilities.
Familiarizes self with all information relevant to matching a person to
a particular job.
Schedules interviews for individuals and accompanies individuals to the
Performs job-coaching duties as needed.
Assists employers in revising standards that exclude applicants from jobs.
Demonstrates to employers the effectiveness and profitability of
employing the chronically unemployed by identifying jobs that workers
Establishes relationships with employers regarding problems, complaints,
and progress of recently placed supported employments and recommends
In sub-minimum wage situations, assists employers in establishing wage
scales commensurate with prevailing rates.
Promotes, develops, and terminates on-the-job training program
opportunities with employers and assists in writing contracts.
Identifies need for and assists in development of auxiliary services to
facilitate bringing applicants with disabilities into job ready status.
Informs business, labor, and public about training programs through
Instructs an applicant in resume writing, job search, and interviewing
Is consistently at work and on time; Ensures work responsibilities are
covered when absent; Arrives at meetings and appointments on time.
