OREGON PERFORMANCE INTERNSHIP

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The 10-week internship is launched each summer with a week-long
performance measurement seminar taught June 7-11 at Portland State
University by Dr. Robert Behn from Harvard's Kennedy School of
Government. The interns then apply what they have learned to
performance projects defined by their sponsors--mostly state and local
agencies in Oregon, and a few not-for-profits. The students also meet
with various policy-level decision makers during the summer and visit
many of Oregon's renowned sites: the Oregon Coast, Columbia River
Gorge, Mt. Hood, Crater Lake, and rafting on the Deschutes River.

See www.oregoninternship.org <http://www.oregoninternship.org/>, or
attached, for more information

Each intern is paid a $5,000 stipend.

The 2004 OPI class is exceptionally strong and comes from many of
America's top schools of public policy and public administration:

American University, UC Berkeley, Chicago, Duke, Georgia, Harvard,
Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Portland State, Princeton,
Texas, UCLA, Washington, and Wisconsin

ABOUT THE JUST- CAME-AVAILABLE-AND-NEED-TO-GET-FILLED-ASAP INTERNSHIP
PROJECT

Oregon state government, which is a pioneer and recognized leader in
performance measurement and management, has formed a project to set
performance standards for its enterprise resource activities--human
resources, financial management, information systems and technology,
procurement, and facilities management (prior performance measurement
focus has been largely on program results rather than the management and
efficacy of these enterprise resources). The sponsoring agency is the
Department of Administrative Services, the administrative arm of the
Governor's Office. The project is highly visible and will provide the
right intern with exposure to complex governmental operations, many
contacts, and a project (a resume line) of unusual importance.

Project is slated to begin June 1, but start date can be sooner or later
to accommodate the student's academic calendar.

HOW TO APPLY

Send a resume via email along with the student's contact information to
me by noon P.D.T. this Friday, May 14 (sooner is better)
