SALT LAKE HOMEBUILDERS ASSOCIATION POSITION:
Government Affairs Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Government Affairs Coordinator has primary responsibility for
planning, organizing, and implementing the Association’s political
action and government affairs programs with the elected leaders and
administrators of Salt Lake and Tooele Counties and the municipalities
in those counties. He or she also works on additional projects including
fund raising activities, member appreciation events, and community
service initiatives. He or she typically operates with significant
autonomy, yet is directly answerable to the Executive Officer and
indirectly to appropriate volunteer committee leaders.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Builds/Maintains amiable working relations with elected officials,
administrators, and other staff members
• Coordinates political candidate interviews and endorsements
• Helps administer the government affairs budget and political action
committee funds
• Coordinates the promotion and logistical elements of
government-related special events
• Provides research and public testimony on policies, ordinances,
legislation, etc. that impact the residential building industry
• Recruits and trains political volunteers
• Develops and manages an extensive database of elected officials,
government administrators, voting records, builders, developers,
subcontractors, etc.
• Represents the Association, as requested, at government, business, and
charitable functions – some of which are scheduled outside regular
business hours

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
• Minimum one year experience organizing and executing political
action/government affairs programs
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public
speaking
• Engaged and enthusiastic team player; well organized with an attention
to detail
• Experience in developing and maintaining a portfolio of funding
programs
• Strong public relations and persuasion skills
• Ability, on occasion, to work flexible hours and work under stressful
situations
• Professional appearance and work ethic
• Strong computer skills

HOURS & COMPENSATION:
This position can be full-time or part-time (25 to 40 hours per week)
with some evening and weekend obligations. Normal hours are 8:00 a.m. to
5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
SLHBA offers competitive compensation, but no benefits.
