As the Planning Specialist you will you will be responsible for

helping us accomplish our mission by providing analytical skills in

resource management planning, including recreation, socio-economics,

widerness, etc.




Education: Graduate Degree or 2 full years of progressively higher

level graduate education leading to such a degree in the related

fields below.


Majors: study of outdoor recreation planning, sociology, forestry,

landscape architecture, economics, biological science, park

administration, earth science, natural resource management and

conservation, civil engineering, urban planning, or recreation.





As the Planning Specialist, you will be responsible for providing 

support for environmental impact statements and resource management 

plans in the areas of recreation, wilderness, and socio-economic 



The incumbent provides analysis of the socio-economic portion in 

relation to land use management plans for various field offices in 



The incumbent conducts inventories focused on recreation 

opportunities, (especially those related to travel management), 

wilderness resource values, and off-highway vehicle, and trail uses.  

The incumbent is involved in analyzing motorized and non-motorized 

travel management alternatives and developing the travel management 

plan as it pertains to recreation on public lands and providing 

impact analysis.  This will include use of GIS equipment and GIS 

databases to prepare maps and charts.  


During development of the EIS for the Moab RMP, the incumbent has 

lead responsibility for tasks related to Wilderness and related 

values. Including assisting with the wilderness program including 

regular wilderness monitoring and representing the wilderness 

resource during the environmental assessment review process including 

the review, analysis, and documentation tasks associated with 

quarterly oil and gas leasing sales. 


The incumbent responds to public, agency, and media inquiries 

concerning recreation and wilderness resource management in the field 

office and makes presentations to officials and interest groups 

pertaining to areas of expertise.
