The Disability Law Center (DLC), a nonprofit legal advocacy organization 
based in Salt Lake City, is the federally-designated protection and 
advocacy system for Utah. The DLC is seeking an experienced, talented 
individual to serve as Executive Director. The Executive Director will 
work closely with a skilled management team consisting of the Director 
of Finance and Administration, the Deputy Director and the Managing 

The DLC has an annual budget of $1.8 million and a staff of 25 permanent 
employees, including attorneys, advocates, public policy and 
communications staff. The DLC advocates on behalf of people with 
disabilities on a wide range of issues, including special education, 
employment, housing, community integration, voting and the prevention of 
abuse and neglect. We utilize public policy advocacy, community 
education, individual client representation, mediation/negotiation, 
impact litigation and other tools to protect and expand the rights and 
choices of people with disabilities in institutional and community 
settings. The DLC is committed to working in coalition with people with 
disabilities, disability rights advocates, the private and public bar, 
children’s rights organizations, and antipoverty advocates. See our

The Executive Director is responsible for all aspects of programmatic 
and financial management of the DLC, including strategic planning, 
budgeting and oversight of financial operations, grants management, 
staff supervision, human resources functions and fundraising. In 
addition, the Director serves as the primary spokesperson for the DLC 
with responsibility for extensive public policy advocacy, community and 
media relations.

The DLC is a partner in the nationally-recognized collaboration “and 
Justice for all”, which raises funds for civil legal service providers 
in Utah and owns and operates the Community Legal Center. The DLC is 
also a member of the new Access to Justice Planning Council initiative 
by the Utah Supreme Court. The Executive Director works to further their 
missions and works closely with members of the Utah State Bar and the 
state’s civil legal service providers to increase access to justice.

*Qualifications: *

§ Demonstrated expertise in nonprofit leadership, management and 

§ Demonstrated ability to raise funds from private sources, including 
foundations and individual donors. Experience with federal grants and 
funding sources.

§ Background in legislative and executive-level public policy advocacy.

§ Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to manage a dynamic and 
diverse staff.

§ Commitment to civil rights and working in coalition with other 
organizations and individuals, with strong preference for background in 
disability, poverty or other social justice issues.
