*Job characteristics*

This is an exempt, appointed position in the Governor's Office of 
Planning and Budget, Demographic and Economic Analysis Section. Research 
support responsibilities include: collecting, organizing and analyzing 
data for research projects; processing of data files; and writing and 
editing. Manage State Data Center and coordinate with Census Bureau and 
33 state affiliates. Respond to requests for economic and demographic 
information. Prepare accurate data and analysis for demographic and 
economic reports and projects, including the annual Economic Report to 
the Governor.



Designs, develops, and conducts a variety of research projects; 
determines appropriate methodologies, information sources, sampling 
strategies, and data-collection tools, etc.  Performs research 
activities by utilizing computer software to obtain and manipulate 
data.  Performs statistical and/or actuarial analysis by applying 
appropriate protocols in analyzing data and reaching accurate 
conclusions.  Analyzes, summarizes and/or reviews data; reports 
findings, interprets results and/or makes recommendations.  Presents 
findings to management, various public officials, or senior 
professionals.  Answers technical questions regarding data, trends or 
results from studies.

Knowledge of or Skills/Ability to research methods, techniques, and/or 
sources of information; perform statistical data analysis; trends and 
forecast methodology; read, interpret and apply laws, rules, 
regulations, policies and/or procedures; applicable laws, rules, 
regulations and/or policies and procedures; use automated software 
applications; use graphic and/or desktop publishing software; use logic 
to analyze or identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts 
associated with information or data to draw conclusions; find, gather 
and collect information or data; compile, code, categorize, calculate, 
tabulate, audit, verify, or process information or data; evaluate 
information against a set of standards; organize information in a clear 
and concise manner; speak clearly, concisely and effectively; listen to, 
and understand, information and ideas as presented verbally; communicate 
information and ideas clearly, and concisely, in writing; read and 
understand information presented in writing; communicate technical 
information effectively both orally and in writing; work with or 
contribute to a work group or team to complete assigned task(s).


*Other Requirements*

Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, 
heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding 
trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.  Typically, the 
employee may sit comfortably to perform the work. However, there may be 
some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, 
books, small parts; driving an automobile, etc. No special physical 
demands are required to perform the work.


*Additional Preference*


Graduation from an accredited 4-year college or university with major 
study in economics, demographics, political science, statistics, or in a 
field with equivalent technical skills and knowledge. Must be familiar 
with economic and demographic statistics and have a good understanding 
of research techniques and statistical methods. Must possess excellent 
oral and written communication skills applied in a professional setting. 
Must work well in a team environment, be self-directed, and possess 
strong interpersonnal skills. Preference may be given to candidates with 
experience in Internet publishing as well as other computer software
