United Way of Salt Lake - Job Description - Public Policy Specialist    
Job Title:        Public Policy Specialist                              
Department:   Community Impact               
Supervisor:    Director, Strategic Initiatives and Public Policy        
Salary range: $32,000-$35,000/ year with benefits 

Job Summary:                                         
Working with the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Public Policy, 
provides assistance and support to United Way of Salt Lake's (UWSL) 
strategic public policy initiatives. Conducts policy analysis and 
research, coordinates efforts with other organizations, and facilitates 
public policy involvement of board, staff and community partners.  
Provides support to policy interns, volunteers, community partners and 
others related to UWSL public policy efforts.  Other duties as 
Job responsibilities and duties:                                         
1.    Research:  Facilitate and/or conduct research and policy analysis 
related to UW public policy priorities.  Assist in measurement of policy 
related outcomes, identify areas of needed research and generate issue 
reports and policy analysis related to UW priorities.  Monitor state and 
national policies and proposals related to UW priorities.                
2.    Stakeholder and Community Involvement:  Provide information and 
tools for staff, board, volunteers, and community partners to be 
involved in public policy efforts.  Author and distribute public policy 
newsletter and action alerts.  Develop and disseminate training tools 
and advocacy materials.  Develop and maintain relationship databases and 
records.  As requested, participate in coalitions to achieve UW 
3.    General Policy Support:  Provide support, coordination and 
follow-up for UWSL public policy committees, events and activities.  
They include, but are not limited to Board, Young Leaders, and Women's 
Philanthropic Network public policy committees, United Way Executive 
Directors Association, and United Ways of Utah.                        
4.    Resource Development:  Identify potential resources to support 
UWSL public policy initiatives.  Lead and/or assist in the development 
of proposals, grants and other requests for support.                  
5.    Administrative Support:  Provide administrative support to the 
Director of Public Policy and the various stakeholders and committees 
related to public policy.  Other duties as assigned.
