*Job Opening: Development Director*

The Leonardo is a new museum project in the heart of downtown Salt Lake
City. Its mission is to fuse science, technology and art in experiences
that inspire creativity and innovation. The Leonardo is a $19M center
that will be housed in the renovated Old Main Library on Library Square
in Salt Lake City.

The center is set to open permanently in less than two years, and is
seeking a development director to spearhead fund raising for the final
$5 million phase of the organization's capital campaign, and to
establish an ongoing giving program.

The successful candidate will, in collaboration with the executive
director, the associate director, board, advisory board and cabinet
members, develop and execute strategies and tactics for completing the
capital campaign. When the campaign is complete, the development
director will be charged with establishing an annual giving program that
produces between $500,000 and $1,000,000 a year. The Development
Director is a senior member of The Leonardo team and will be engaged in
the planning of all programming and exhibit elements and their relative
priorities with an eye toward donor and sponsor participation and funding.

The development director will report to the Executive Director, and
supervise any additional personnel allocated to the development function.

Specifically, the development director will engage the board and
executive director in setting fundraising goals, the prioritization of
prospects and opportunities, the solicitation of major gifts and
sponsorships, developing giving programs for corporations and
individuals, overhauling and fine tuning the membership ("Friends of
Leo") program, and coordinating the development of proposals for grants
from private and government foundations (e.g. NSF, IMLS, National
Endowment for the Arts, and National Endowment for the Humanities) and
other sources including school districts, state and county agencies.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree, a minimum of 3-5
years experience in positions that involved relationship building in
either a fund raising capacity at a non-profit organization, or in
client development in a for-profit setting.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to work
in a team environment, and be highly organized in a changing
environment, and excellent relationship-building skills are also required.
