Position:  Student Staff (Speaker's Bureau Coordinator)
Office: LGBT Resource Center, 409 Union
Hours: 20 hours a week

The LGBT Resource Center is seeking a student who is highly motivated and enthusiastic about queer issues on campus. This is a great opportunity to be involved in a dynamic office that is committed to an inclusive campus climate. As a paid student staff, this position will assist with maintaining the office on a daily bases as well as ongoing and annual coordination of center programs/events. This position reports directly to the director of the LGBTRC. This position will coordinate the Speaker's Bureau, the Center's Fabulous Fridays and will also assist as needed with the other programming and events listed below.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  *   General office duties, such as answering phones, greeting guest, and maintaining library.
  *   Gathers and assembles information for various events and reports.
  *   Foster working relationships with students, staff, faculty and community.
  *   Be a public face for the Center and for the University.
  *   Maintain all databases of people, photos, and offices/departments.
  *   Foster working relationships with students, staff, faculty and community.
  *   Attend weekly staff meetings and supervision meetings.
  *   Attend weekly supervision meetings.
  *   Tabling on and off campus.
  *   Coordinate Speaker's Bureau, coordinate Fabulous Fridays, includes volunteer coordination and tracking.
  *   Design flyers and posters for events.
  *   Assist with Silent Auction.
  *   Other duties as assigned.

Programming involvement consists of:

  *   Mentoring Programs
  *   Safe Zone Training
  *   Speaker's Bureau
  *   Fabulous Fridays

Event involvement consists of:

  *   LGBTQA New Student Orientation
  *   Pride Week at the U
  *   Transgender Awareness month
  *   Awareness Campaign/Day of Silence
  *   World AIDS Day
  *   Bisexual Awareness month
  *   Awareness Campaign/Ally Social
  *   Lavender Graduation
  *   Utah Pride Festival

Required Qualifications: This position has extensive public contact so excellent customer service skills and communication skills as well as the ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and represent the LGBTRC and University in a positive manner are essential. Other required qualifications include: effective problem-solving and time-management skills; good boundaries; ability to follow directions and attention to detail; commitment to social justice; ability to work independently and as part of a team; working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer or Firefox, and navigation of the University website; have a valid drivers' license; and familiar with LGBTQA needs on campus. Selected candidate must be a University student in good standing and enrolled during spring semester.

Preferred Qualifications: Willingness to remain in the position for the academic year.

Hours:  This position is 20 hours week. The LGBTRC office hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m.to 5pm and until 6pm on Tuesdays.  However, there will be some weekend and evening programing that this position will be required to work.
