Assistant City Manager - West Jordan
Salary Range: $100,152 - $127,816
The City of West Jordan, Utah is located in the heart of the Salt Lake Valley with the Oquirrh mountains to the west and the Wasatch mountains to the east. Strategically located in the southwest portion of Salt Lake County, West Jordan is Utah's fourth-largest city, with approximately 104,000 residents. Its proximity to major transportation corridors provides easy access to the Salt Lake International Airport, world-class destination resorts, universities and colleges, and numerous employment opportunities along with the Wasatch Front. The City operates under the Council/Manager form of Government. The City Council consists of an elected Mayor and six elected Council Members (4 Districts, 2 at-large). The City's budget for FY12/13 is $106.7 million with a total of approximately 500 employees.
The Assistant City Manager provides high level support for administrative directives and programs and provides assistance to the City Manager specific to the administration of various programs and departments; provides professional leadership in the management of the City and execution of administrative policies; provides effective municipal services through the administrative coordination and direction of Finance, Human Resources, and Legislative Affairs; may supervise other departments and programs as assigned by the City Manager; presents recommendations and information to enable the City Manager to make policy decisions; responds promptly and positively to all citizen inquiries and serves as a champion of customer service inside and outside of the organization; assists the City Manager in maintaining a sound fiscal position for the City through the preparation of the annual budget; and provides continuous monitoring of the City's financial condition, providing advice to the City Manager as appropriate; and attends all meetings of the City Council. The Assistant City Manager is an at-will employee in accordance with state statute and will be selected and appointed by the City Manager.
This position requires five years of responsible public sector management; prior City Manager, Assistant City Manager, or equivalent experience; and a Masters degree in public administration, business management, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
