Job Characteristics


The Governor’s Office of Economic Development is seeking an Information Specialist II.  The incumbent must have excellent business writing skills as they will be producing press releases, news stories for placement, corporate “thank you’s” and congratulatory letters. The incumbent will do preliminary drafts of talking points for speeches which will be given by office directors, the executive director and occasionally the Governor. This position writes or drafts correspondence, reports, documents and/or other written materials. The incumbent will produce press releases, original media stories, respond to media requests with background information, but will not be a quotable source. In addition, they will produce internal communications, including reports, brochures and produce web content as a back-up to the agency webmaster.



The ability to take direction well is critical. Incumbents must strive to produce the highest quality work, and embrace stressful situations (generally caused by short notice requests). This position will report to and assist the communications director in a close and confidential staff capacity. The incumbent will provide administrative support; assists the communications director as a liaison between the Governor's Office and media.

·       Grammar, spelling and punctuation. Should be familiar with AP style.

Job Characteristics

The incumbent in this appointed job reports to and assists the Business marketing Director in a close and confidential staff capacity, and serves as a member of the GOED marketing communications team.

The incumbent provides design and communications support with the creation, management and execution of integrated marketing plans to promote GOED services statewide.  This position supports out-of-state corporate recruitment and International marketing efforts as well as developing presentations delivered by GOED senior management and the Governor's Office.  Incumbents will manage email marketing campaigns, support website and social media design and promotions including cross-training to serve as back-up to agency web master. Incumbents will provide event management and support for industry roundtables and GOED conferences, and support other marketing promotional activities and duties as assigned. Incumbent conducts research, writes or drafts presentations, reports, documents and/or other written materials.

The incumbent ensures that GOED leadership or other state representatives are prepared and informed of the type of group or gathering that they will be speaking to and likely questions they may encounter if Q&A is part of the presentation format. The incumbent designs and edits marketing collateral including as example, online banners and web pages, event promotions, trade show signage, GOED service brochures, email newsletters, info-graphics, and social media imagery. The incumbent's duties may include sourcing outside services such as printing and specialized design work. Duties may also include representing the agency at public events.
