Job Summary

TheNHMUPhilanthropy Fellowship provides a dynamic opportunity for a recent graduate to explore a potential career in the nonprofit sector. As a full-time staff member at the Natural History Museum of Utah, the Fellow will work as part of the Museum's Philanthropy team, helping to raise the private funds necessary to support the diverse work of the Museum. The position is designed for recent graduates who are interested in - or simply curious about - a career in nonprofits, particularly membership and fundraising. The successful applicant will be ready to work hard, collaborate with team colleagues, and eager to learn about, and network within, the philanthropic sector. The Fellowship runs through July 15, 2019 and includes full University benefits.


As a full-time member of the Museum's Philanthropy Team, the Fellow will have the opportunity to assist with, and learn about, nearly every aspect of NHMU's philanthropic efforts. Areas of focus include Museum Membership, the Copper Club, the Annual Gala, special events including exhibition openings, and more. The Fellow will have the opportunity to learn and develop a wide range of essential skills including: membership fulfillment, renewals, and new member acquisition; data entry and gift processing using industry-standard fundraising software; preparing for, planning, and executing fundraising events; and more.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years related sales/marketing experience, or equivalency; demonstrated oral and written communications skills; and a commitment to providing excellent customer service required. Knowledge of data base management and report generation is strongly preferred.


The ideal applicant will be a highly-motivated entry-level professional interested in jump-starting a career in the nonprofit sector; and eager to gain first-hand experience as part of a hardworking, dedicated, philanthropy team. Previous experience in the nonprofit sector is not required.
